Information and Guidelines

Your quilt preparation is an important part of the quilting process. If your quilt is prepared well it will quilt much easier and will allow me to get the best possible result for you.

  • No need to baste or pin your quilt together
  • The backing fabric and wadding needs to be a least 4 inch bigger then the quilt top on all four sides.
  • The backing fabric needs to be square (especially if it is pieced).
  • The backing fabric should be similar in colour to your quilt top. The thread colour used on the top will be same as the bobbin thread. Tip- Printed backing look better then plain.
  • Loose threads on quilt top should be trimmed or pulled through to the back. Excess threads left on the top could incur and extra cost….
  • Please press your quilt top and back well.
  • Check for unsewn or frayed seams and repair them.
  • Pieced borders need a line of stay stitching around the edge of quilt top to stop seams popping open.
  •  The quilt top must be square. Fullness and puckers pieced in the quilt top cannot always be quilted out.
  • I use rasant threads and King Tut variegated. Variegated threads incur and extra cost….
  • You may supply your own backing and wadding providing it is not 100% polyester.

Quilters Coop Retreat

Every year in August a group of my loyal class mates and customers meet for a weekend retreat. This involves a group of ladies getting together at a pre-determined location in our region and all working on a common project. It generally starts with a get together on Friday evening followed by two days of sewing and frivolity.  Participant prizes, lucky door prizes and fancy dress night on the Saturday all make this a fun weekend. It is a great weekend with lots of laughs and caters for all levels of quilters.
This is a very popular event and spots fill quickly so if you are interested you need to book early.

Each week The Quilter’s Coop offers 4 classes. There is no set lesson everybody works on the own project in their own time at their own pace. I am simply here if you need help along the way.
